Yes. Expect such a quality rebuttal from Christians, particularly Catholics. Some of these rebuttals are also covered in these documentaries.
Jesus was a human, a charismatic individual who was executed as a political enemy. Story surrounding birth of Jesus, born to a virgin, son of God etc., are all copied from stories of pagan Gods.
That is what the documentary says.
Here is what I want to say to believers and non-believers alike: I encourage everyone to seek the truth for oneself. There are too many parties with vested interests who would want to deceive you into believing their version. _________________ "The mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye. that is a stupid nineteenth century myth.
Start to read some real books. Try Rene Girard, among others... not wannabe "mythologists". _________________ Ahmed the wife-beating bahgat moslem said:

You really are stuck in superficial, are you?` (not to mention the 2nd century sources blaming MITHRAISM of being a copy-cat of christianity! ... quite possible, since we know precious little to nothing of mithraism and especially about mithraism before christianity)
and hey... check out THIS:

| Some authors have drawn parallels between the circumstances of Mithras' and Jesus' birth: Joseph Campbell described it as a virgin birth,[29] and Martin A. Larson noted that Mithras was said to have been born on December 25, or the winter solstice.[30] This theory is in contradiction to the traditional understanding of Mithras' birth. In Mithraic Studies it stated that Mithras was born as an adult from solid rock, "wearing his Phrygian cap, issues forth from the rocky mass. As yet only his bare torso is visible. In each hand he raises aloft a lighted torch and, as an unusual detail, red flames shoot out all around him from the petra genetrix."[31] David Ulansey speculates that this was a belief derived from the Perseus' myths which held he was born from an underground cavern.[32] |

Spoken just like a devout Catholic. Now, did you watch the video link above? Still think it is an original Christian story? _________________ "The mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye. The more light you shine on it, the more it will contract." - Oliver Wendell Holmes |

I didn´t speak as a devout catholic, but as someone who read a bit about mythology... more than you did, quite obviously.
Apparently, you didn´t even read the second half of my post, pointing out, that the stories about mithras´birth aren´t even the "orthodox" mithraic ones.
Check out the things I said, before wasting any more of my time. _________________ Ahmed the wife-beating bahgat moslem said:

Jesus' religion?
I think he was a Swedenborgian..... Or was he a standard Jew with Neo-Platonist/Essene influences?
Or was he a liberal democrat? _________________ The Pagaal Chamar Bhangi Khargosh rules!!

| Yes Jesus was a jew and so are all of us if we come from the abrahamic religions,so lets not persecute the jews any more, as we r all jews, only different variations of the religion.Let not islam say "i hate jews" or christians say the same because, as christians we pray to a jew and his family in church our heads of church wear the same skull caps as the jews and we more or less observe the same traditions..but more than anything we pray to the same God. the God of moses and abraham |

Mithra (Or Sanskrit: Mitra) has been quoted in ancient texts dating back to 15th century BC.Its a proto-indo-aryan and hindu diety.
The Irony is that Jesus did go to India for spiritual learning and would have heard the fables of Mitra(& Varuna), but was caught just in the story and not the meaning hidden behind the story.
The Rigveda (1500 - 3000 BCE) even has a verse praising Mitra
"Oh Mitra! In search of you we leave behind the eternal physical realm, to meditate on an even greater entity, our soul. We attain to the most blissful, luminous light, the illuminator of all things, even of the shining glory of the sun, who is the greatest of all. All the things of this world act as signals to lead us to the god-head, the knower of all things, the possessor of all destructive and sustaining powers. Surely that is the correct path to understanding this universe"
Mitra is treated as the manifest creator of the physical universe.(that's why the fables of being born from rock, having a torch in his hands , red flames bla bla) is an anthropomorphic representation of the cosmic principle. |
